So I had a baby…

On March 3rd Emilia “Emi” May Diak came into the world and fell immediately into my heart.

The past few months I’ve spent getting to know her, and figuring out this new life of being a father. Let me tell you, baby’s are no joke, but they are sooo worth it! I can be so frustrated with her, and then she can give me a little smile and all of the frustration just melts away.

Work from the Past Few Weeks

There’s been a lot going on in my life the past few months. Selling a house, getting ready for a baby.

I’ve also been putting a lot of thought into where I want to take my career as an artist. With the baby coming my art time is going to be of high value. Forever seeing that the perpetual glass is half-full, I see this has a great opportunity to really focus on what needs to get done, and where I want to go.

Comics have always been a direction I’ve wanted to move towards, and I think this year might be the year where I actually start putting pen to panel.

Regarding this past month, with most of my commissions and fall/winter projects finished, I’ve been able to do some pieces just for fun. Let me know what you think in the comments:

Two More X-Wing Interviews

A few months ago I had the opportunity to do some drawings of X-Wing Pilot Helmets to accompany John Bishops’ interviews of actors who’ve portrayed various X-Wing/Y-Wing pilots in various Star Wars films.

Instead of interviews this time around, John has written up some biography-esque articles about two of Star Wars most memorable late, pilot actors. Follow the links provided to read all about Porkins and Rogue Two (aka the man with the most boring but easiest to draw X-Wing helmet in history)

BB-8 for my BB-Mate

Today is my 5th Wedding Anniversary. Below is a card I made for my amazing wife. Her favorite Star Wars character is BB-8 and so I had the Sketch Wars Drawing Club unknowingly draw her a bunch of BB-8s

This drawing was done completely digitally.

Tie Fighter & the First Ever Sketch Wars Drawing Club

One of my goals with my Sketch Wars project is to encourage others to draw and to draw often. After finding several other drawing clubs on Instagram I decide to start my own!

I’ll be posting drawing prompts from time to time on my Instagram and Twitter.

First up we did drawings of TIE Fighters as I’ve wanted to draw a TIE Fighter for a really long time.

You can view the other amazing entries under the hashtag #SketchWarsDrawingClub on both Instagram and Twitter.

This TIE Fighter was drawn digitally and then colored using Copic Markers.

Illustrations for X-Wing Interviews

Recently John Bishop of MakingStarWars.net got the opportunity to interview some of the actors who portrayed various X-Wing pilots from various Star Wars films. To accompany his interviews he asked me to draw the corresponding helmet.

I took this opportunity to continue to hone my digital art skills. Below are the first four helmets with links to John’s interview.

Sketch Wars Revisited

This past year I’ve gone back into the archives and dug out some of my favorite character drawings that I did for my Countdown to Episode VII and decided to give them a bit of an update.

The purpose for the countdown was to help improve my drawing skills, so Sketch Wars: Revisited is a way to test if I’ve actually made progress. Below are the original character drawing with the new version. Let me know if you think I’ve made progress or not in the comments below:

Commission Brazil

Last week I had the pleasure of doing not one, but two commissions for Marcio Filho from Brazil.

These were fun commissions to do as Plo Koon is my favorite Jedi, and I’ve been wanting to try my hand at doing more vehicles. (TIE Fighter next?)

Let me know what vehicles you’d like me to try my hand at, and also let me know who your favorite Jedi is in the comments below
